Timian Training & Development to run workshops on Restrictive Physical Intervention at the Action on Elderly Abuse National Conferrence

Nick Butcher, General Manager has been asked to present workshops on both days of this years Action on Elderly Abuse National Conference in Nottingham – 23 & 24 March 2009.  This has been a response to our work in researching and developing a training course for staff supporting elderly service users with challenging behaviours.

The issue of the use of restrictive physical interventions for elderly people is quite rightly controversial.  Some would argue that it should not be necessary if the standard of care is sufficiently high yet it is apparent that restraint is used in the care of elderly people with mental health problems and dementia.

The workshops aim to explore these issues and reflect on the experiences of services for adults with learning disabilities with the development of the BILD Code of Practice and Accreditation Scheme.

From the 1st August 2008, we are able to offer Challenging Behaviour and Physical Interventions Training that complies with the NHS SMS national curiculum for Promoting Safer and Therapeutic Services (PSTS).  In addition to our standard training package, the PSTS course includes supplementary presentaion materials and handouts for attendees.
